I am Sam

Sam Hemphill sitting on a stage

I am an experienced tertiary lecturer, academic consultant, and business mentor with a multidisciplinary background spanning marketing, entrepreneurship, UX, communications, and digital strategy.

My teaching experience includes four years at Collarts (Australian College of the Arts), where I wrote and delivered AQF 7 units in digital strategy, marketing, UX, and coding.

I taught research, strategy, marketing and communicatons units in the Advertising & Media and Business faculties at Macleay College, as well as being a coding instructor at General Assembly. I have also delivered guest lectures at The University of Melbourne and Flinders University New Venture Institute.

I have considerable experience supporting students from diverse backgrounds, including those who speak English as a second language.

I hold an AQF8 Graduate Diploma in Creative Industries (Communication Design) and a Bachelor of Arts as well as qualifications in music business and audio engineering. I hold a current Working With Children check, and have been certified by Vision Australia in Web Accessibility Techniques and Testing, reflecting my commitment to inclusive and accessible education.

I am currently completing my Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40122) at RMIT University, which is due for completion at the end of 2025.

My work blends academic and industry perspectives. I have led digital projects for clients such as Qantas, Coles, Accenture and News Limited. As Co-Director of Meeum, I help build digital capability and marketing strategy for arts organisations, not-for-profits, and small businesses such as Footscray Community Arts, Studio A, Regional Arts WA, Arts Law, Canberra Glassworks, and Barking Gecko Theatre.

As an Expert-in-Residence for LaunchVic, I, along with my company Meeum, designed and delivered a unique upskilling program for non-technical Victorian entrepreneurs. As Digital Specialist in Residence for Creative Australia, I worked directly with arts organisations to identify digital opportunities, prototype new initiatives, and pitch for funding and internal support. I have also mentored over 100 small businesses through the Victorian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Melbourne Innovation Centre as well as ongoing private consulting work.

In 2025, I was selected as a Session Evaluator for SXSW Sydney, contributing both academic and entrepreneurial insight to the Education & Skills (Business & Leadership) track.

With a strong foundation in education, a deep connection to the arts sector, and extensive real-world experience, I am an ideal candidate for casual or guest lecturing opportunities.

Student feedback

This is a selection of student feedback gathered from anonomous surveys collected by Collarts.

Sam is a gem, he explains concepts so well and his classes are always super informative and engaging, and you can tell he genuinely loves what he does and cares for his students.

The information given was incredibly helpful when implementing social media based business strategies.

Everything about it. Sam was a brilliant lecturer and he made this subject what it was. Favourite class and teacher by far.

Having an engaging teacher made everything a lot better because people were participating more in class and paying more attention to what was going on basically. I loved the class in general because it was specific to music students and how we would approach social media for our brand.

The teacher was very thorough and checked in with us quite a bit to make sure we knew and understood the course work.

I thought this subject was really engaging. Sam our teacher was awesome He made his lecturers and videos easy to understand and engaging.

Sam made the unit fun and engaging as well as having a relaxed and wellpaced feel to it making the content much easier to understand and complete.
